Demographic and Geographic of Penang



Demographic



Penang is an island that have large density of population in Malaysia with 2457 peoples per square kilometre on the island and 1056 peoples per square kilometre on the mainland. Plus,  Penang is the only state in Malaysia which has a majority of ethnic Chinese. A very tiny percentage community called Peranakan also exists in Penang and mostly known as Baba Nyonya and are descendents of early Chinese immigrants to Penang. 


The most common languages spoken in Penang is Malay, Chinese Cantonese, Chinese Hokkien and Tamil. People still use English language but it usually can be used when working.





Geographic 




Penang is one of the thirteen states that make up Malaysia and lies off the northwest coast of Peninsula Malaysia. Penang is divided into two sections which is Penang Island and Province Wellesley (mainland). The island is connected with the mainland by the Penang Bridge and it begins at Gelugor on the island and ends in Perai on the mainland.

George Town is the capital of Penang Island and a must for visitor to go there. Batu Ferringhi, Bayan Lepas, Balik Pulau and Tanjung Bungah is a part of the island.While in the mainland, Butterworth is the mainland that access to Penang. Seberang Perai Tengah and Selatan, Bandar Perda, Nibong Tebal, Seberang Jaya is a part of places in the mainland.
