Georgetown Heritage Festival

Penang today is a blend of old and new, a heritage city and an industrial centre. Because of this kind of specialty, Georgetown has been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage on 7th July 2008 and after that, there has a festival that people called it The Georgetown Heritage Festival.

This festival is a month-long festive celebration for Georgetown. The festival usually will be scheduled annually every year, is a feast of theatre, music, dance, film, art, opera, food, fashion, photography, and inspirational talks. Plus, this festival theme will focus more on multi-ethnic culture and architectural landscape as this is heritage celebration.

The celebration gives people a platform to promote arts and culture, and to give chance to all stakeholders to work in order to promote Penang as a selected destination for tourism. The festivals really help people and raise public interest in arts, culture and heritage education. Even though Penang embraces with modernity but it’s still retain the traditions and old charm of Penang.

Usually, people that participated in this celebration is public people, professionals and academic institutions to join its activities like hands-on workshops, talks, seminars, research activities and cultural initiatives. By doing this, it will attract more people and also tourists from all over the world to the festivals and showing Penang’s uniqueness, culture and heritage in George Town city.
